About

My name’s Anna Chiyeko Shannon, and I am a non-binary mixed-race filmmaker. I use they/them pronouns, am fourth generation Japanese-Irish-Danish-Czech Canadian, and live with chronic migraines and ADHD. I was born and raised in Toronto, ON by my irreplaceable family, and currently live in Vancouver, BC with my community of friends and creative collaborators.

After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a BFA in Film Production in 2020, I have been primarily editing. I balance my hours at Bunch of Carrots Productions Ltd. with various freelance projects. I have worked alongside Studio 104 EntertainmentGood IdeaNo More Productions and Wallop Films on documentary and narrative projects that range from short to feature length. Notably two feature documentaries I edited, THE CHEF & THE DARUMA and INAY (MAMA), were programmed and won awards at VIFF 2024.

As an artist who finds home in so many cultural spaces of minority, I love championing stories that challenge the status quo from communities who have previously been under-represented or ignored. This is the through line of all the projects I’ve edited and directed, and as I move forward in my career I will continue to uphold this trend.
